The third annual Community Christmas will help bring joy to those who need it most.

December 1 and 2, Station Square Co-op was filled with donations of food, toys, money and Christmas cheer.

Fort Saskatchewan crammed four festively decorated bins with toys and food, while donations at the till alone accumulated to over $1,800, divided evenly between the Fort Sask Food Bank and Families First Society.

Food and cash donations received for the Fort Sask Food Bank go towards the popular Christmas hamper campaign, toys go to the Families First Society to help less fortunate families give presents to their young ones.

The Food Bank saw an increase in food donations and raised over $7,100 at their table, up $5,000 from the same period last year.

"Just a great community, great effort and they've done it year after year," said Food Gatherer's Society volunteer Wayne Katchur. "Given the tough times that are out there, it seems like they still come forward and make their contributions."

There was no shortage of entertainment either, with carolers from Fort Elementary and musicians from Gott the Gift Music Studio filling the store with their music. Santa Claus also made a special appearance on both days and posed for photographs with kids.
