Provincial and local COVID-19 cases have jumped up over the weekend.
For the local area, the first number is active cases on Friday (Apr.9), while the second is the updated total for Monday:

- Fort Saskatchewan: 58 cases - 72 cases
- Sherwood Park: 124 cases -168 cases
- Strathcona County: 37 cases - 48 cases
- Sturgeon County: 59 cases - 82 cases
- Morinville: 35 cases - 42 cases
- Lamont County: three cases – nine cases
Multiple local schools are also reporting cases of COVID-19 in students or staff. Here is the full list of schools being monitored and their current status:

- St. John Paul II Catholic School (outbreak 10+ cases)
Strathcona County
- Bev Facey Community High School (outbreak 10+ cases)
- Ardrossan Junior Senior High School (alert 2-4 cases)
- Archbishop Jordan Catholic High School (alert 2-4 cases)
- Ecole Pere Kenneth Kearns Catholic School (alert 2-4 cases)
- F.R. Haythorne Junior High (one case)
- Sherwood Heights Junior High (one case)
- Mills Haven Elementary (one case)
Sturgeon County
- École Citadelle (outbreak 5-9 cases)
- Camilla School (alert 2-4 cases)
- Landing Trail School (alert 2-4 cases)
- Sturgeon Composite High School (alert 2-4 cases)
- Morinville Community High School (alert 2-4 cases)
Alberta Health Services is working with all of these schools to ensure health measures are in place to mitigate the spread and all close contacts are informed.
Provincial update
The province has reported 1,136 new COVID-19 cases in the last day for a total of 14,849. Of these, 7,620 are variants that now make up about 51 per cent of active cases in Alberta.
There are 390 people in the hospital, with 90 in the ICU. A total of 2,018 Albertans have passed away.
To date, 847,630 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province. The government's vaccination rollout plan also recently expanded.
