Some residents noticed more police than normal around Lamont on Sunday (Apr. 17).
At around 10:30 p.m., an officer tried to pull over a vehicle outside of Lamont for not having its tail lights on. However, the vehicle refused to stop and took off.
"This is, unfortunately, a common occurrence that vehicles just don't stop for us," explained Fort Saskatchewan RCMP Constable Lauren Mowbray.
During this time, Edmonton Police Service's Air 1 helicopter happened to be in the area. When they heard about the person fleeing from police on their radio, they helped the RCMP look for the suspect vehicle.
Redwater RCMP was also in the area at the time for unrelated reasons and was able to assist.
Police were able to find the vehicle only a short distance away, abandoned. It was not registered or insured so police don't know who was driving and are unable to pursue any suspects at this time.
RCMP said there is no threat to the public.
