Most of us aren't getting enough exercise.
A whopping 85 per cent of Canadians don't meet the physical activity guideline set out for the population.
Adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity throughout the week and it doesn't have to be all at once.
"Most people spread it (the time) out. It might be five days a week or two or three times a week, but it needs to add up to the 150 (minutes) we're encouraging people to do," said Dr. Doug Klein, an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta.
Examples of moderate physical activity include walking briskly, water aerobics, playing a doubles game of tennis or ballroom dancing.
75 minutes of vigorous activity are also acceptable, instances include jogging, hiking uphill, swimming laps and jumping rope.
According to Klein, obesity rates are increasing; one in four Canadians are obese and another one in four are considered overweight.
"It's a huge issue."
Kids need at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day.
